Parking at Scala dei Turchi: car parks, prices and walking distance
At Scala dei Turchi you leave the car in one of the paid car parks along the SP 68, the provincial road between Realmonte and Porto Empedocle, or at the bottom of the Discesa Majata, a side road down towards the sea, and then walk down to the beach. The municipality does not publish prices and each car park sets its own: in visitor reviews from around August and September 2026 they range from €2 an hour to €10, often in cash. In summer, arrive early: one visitor in around September 2026 writes that finding a space is very hard.
Where are the car parks?
The municipality of Realmonte's page on the visit lists three paid car parks along the SP 68 and two more at the end of the Discesa Majata. From there you reach four points where you can walk down to the beach: the Pizzeria "Scala dei Turchi", the "Acanthus" beach club, the White bar-Lounge beach and the Majata beach club. The municipality gives neither prices nor opening hours.
| Area | What to know |
|---|---|
| Along the SP 68 | Three car parks on the provincial road between Realmonte and Porto Empedocle, listed by the municipality (August 2026). Prices not published. |
| Discesa Majata | Two car parks at the bottom of the road, towards the Majata beach club, listed by the municipality. According to a 2024 guide, from here you reach the cliff with no steps, along about 1 km of beach. |
| Michelangelo area | "Parking Scala dei Turchi (L. Michelangelo)", in the Punta Grande area, at Scavuzzo. A campervan parking area with an Apecar shuttle to the beach (listing and reviews on a campervan website). |
| Parkingland | Along the SP 68. A 2024 guide says it is open, a campervan listing says closed: check on site. |
| Free municipal car park | Mentioned by two 2026 guides, reported closed in 2024, missing from the municipality's page. |
"Parking Scala dei Turchi" is not an official name: several operators use similar names (such as "Parcheggio Scala dei Turchi" or "Parkingland Scala dei Turchi"). Look at the sign at the entrance, not just the name on the map.
How much does it cost?
There is no public price list. These are the prices visitors report in Google reviews: they give you an idea, they are not guaranteed rates. Google shows dates in relative terms, so the months are approximate.
| Review (approximate month) | Price reported |
|---|---|
| September 2026 | €2 an hour |
| September 2026 | €6 for 2 hours |
| August 2026 | €6 for 4 hours, flat rate, paid in advance |
| September 2026 | €10, plus €2 per person for the Apecar |
| October 2026 | cash only, no receipt |
On Tripadvisor a visitor in July 2025 complained about paying €5 for around 50 minutes and about unclear prices. A 2024 guide reported similar figures, in blocks of a few hours or for the whole day.
The practical tip: ask the price before you leave the car, and take a photo of the price board.
Can you park a campervan?
There are private campervan parking areas near the cliff. The one mentioned most often is "Parking Scala dei Turchi (L. Michelangelo)", in the Punta Grande area: it has space for about thirty vehicles, facilities and an Apecar shuttle to the beach. According to visitor reviews, in April 2026 a night cost €20 with the "taxi" to the beach included, and in August 2026 €35 for a campervan with two people. One visitor counts about 180 steps down to the sea from there.
The Parkingland campervan area is listed as closed on a campervan website, with reviews that stop in 2019.
Can you leave the car by the road?
The reviews contradict each other. In reviews from around July to October 2026, some visitors say they parked for free by the roadside; others, in reviews from around September 2026, warn that you get fined and that police patrol, especially in high season. A 2024 guide also warns of the risk of being towed. We found no 2026 order on parking bans along the SP 68.
The problem is not new: according to the Quotidiano di Sicilia newspaper, in summer 2012 the road was almost blocked by cars parked on both sides, and by mid-August Realmonte's two traffic wardens had already issued about 1,700 parking fines. If you can't find a space in a car park, don't improvise one on the verge.
Attendants and cash
Unofficial parking attendants do not appear in 2026 reviews; one 2025 review complained that to reach the beach you have to pass the attendants along the road. Some operators ask for cash, and a review from around October 2026 mentions paying without a receipt. Keep some coins and notes, as many visitors advise: the entrance ticket, on the other hand, is card only (see tickets and opening hours).
From the car park to the entrance
There is no direct access from the road to the cliff: you go down to the beach (about five minutes from the path by the "Lido Scala dei Turchi" restaurant) and then walk on the sand to the entrance gate, 10 to 20 minutes with no shade according to visitors in 2026. The way back is uphill. From the upper car parks there is also a paid Apecar, a small three-wheeled vehicle, down to the start of the beach. The different ways down, the Apecar and what to put in your satnav are in our guide on how to get to Scala dei Turchi; if walking is difficult for you, read our page on accessibility first.
Without a car
- By bus. In the warmer months the Temple Tour Bus (line B) links central Agrigento and the Valley of the Temples with a "Scala dei Turchi" stop, never on Mondays; in summer 2026, according to a single source, there was also a municipal shuttle from Realmonte. Times, stops and caveats, with how to combine the two visits, are in our guide from Agrigento to Scala dei Turchi; the shuttle is described on our page on Realmonte.
- On foot from Lido Rossello. If you are staying at Lido Rossello, you can walk along the road with the viewpoints, following a route published by a user; one blog says the passage along the shore is only possible at low water, and no official source says whether it is allowed today.
In short
- In August, arrive as soon as possible after opening at 08:00: parking, your entry slot and the cooler air are all on your side.
- Cash for parking and the Apecar, a card for the ticket.
- Ask the price before you stop and keep the receipt, if you get one.
- No parking on the verge of the SP 68.
- Before you go, check that the site is open today: it closes in wind, choppy or rougher sea or weather alerts.
