Lido Rossello: the beach below Capo Rossello, near Scala dei Turchi

Beach 1 km from the Scala as the crow flies

Lido Rossello is the Realmonte beach at the foot of Capo Rossello, west of Scala dei Turchi (the Turkish Steps): 1.4 km as the crow flies, about 2.8 km by road. Italy's Ministry of Health rates its water as excellent. On beach clubs, parking and prices, on the other hand, we have no verified information: here is what we know and what is worth asking before you set off.

Where is Lido Rossello?

On the coast of Realmonte, in the province of Agrigento, between Scala dei Turchi to the east and the headland of Capo Rossello to the west. OpenStreetMap calls this beach "Spiaggia di Capo Rossello" (Capo Rossello beach) and places it in the Lido Rossello area, so online you will find both names for the same spot. The village of Realmonte sits on the hill, about 1.6 km away as the crow flies.

The photo at the top is an aerial shot from 2019 that its author captions "Capo Rossello Beach": from above the beach looks sandy, with a row of houses behind it and, higher up, eroded clay slopes.

How do you get there, and where do you park?

By car. From Scala dei Turchi it is about 2.8 km by road: seven minutes without traffic, according to the OSRM routing service, which uses OpenStreetMap data. A guide from May 2026 mentions access from the SP 68 between Realmonte and Lido Rossello; it is the same provincial road that runs above the Scala on its way to Porto Empedocle.

Parking. We found no sources on car parks, rates or restrictions at Lido Rossello: the municipality only publishes parking for Scala dei Turchi, and you will find it in our guide to parking at Scala dei Turchi.

Without a car. According to Sicilia Target, from 1 July 2026 the municipality ran a summer town bus with a stop at Lido Rossello, along with Via Rina, Piazza Umberto I, the town stadium, Scala dei Turchi and Punta Grande. It is the only source and the fare is not given: ask the municipality for runs and dates. Lumia buses from Agrigento stop in Realmonte, in the village and on the SS 115 main road, not by the sea: runs and stops are in our guide from Agrigento to Scala dei Turchi.

Can you walk to Scala dei Turchi from here?

Yes, along the road. A route published by a user on Outdooractive starts at Lido Rossello, climbs to the viewpoints and then goes down to the beach below the Scala: 7.1 km there and back, about an hour and forty minutes, with 151 metres of climbing. Along the SP 68 there is also the viewpoint area of Scala dei Turchi and Monte Rossello, where panels on the geology of the coast were put up in 2024.

Along the shore the route is shorter, about 2 km according to a travel blog, but there is a rocky stretch that the same blog describes as passable only at low water. No order and no official source says whether the passage is allowed or banned today: if the sea is choppy, don't try it.

Once at the Scala, to walk on the rock you need a ticket (€6), as explained in our guide to Scala dei Turchi tickets. We have no firm information on what applies to the beach below the cliff, where swimming bans have been in force: see our guide to the Scala dei Turchi beach.

What is the water like?

The Portale Acque, the Ministry of Health's bathing water portal, rates the "Lido Rossello" bathing water as excellent: in 2026 there were six samples, from 14 April to 15 September, all within limits. The bathing season runs from 1 May to 31 October. The portal has no sampling point called "Scala dei Turchi": the closest to the cliff are Lido Rossello and Punta Grande.

Two caveats. The rating measures microbiological quality and does not tell you where swimming is safe. And no beach in the area has a Blue Flag in 2026: in the province of Agrigento only Menfi has one.

Which rules apply?

  • Cliffs. The 2026 beach safety order of the Porto Empedocle Coast Guard, which also covers the Realmonte coast, bans standing or walking within 10 metres of the top of sheer cliffs and of their base, and bans diving or jumping from the cliffs.
  • Turtles. Loggerhead turtles (Caretta caretta) nest on this coast: in Realmonte there was a nest at Lido Kaeso in 2024, according to BlogSicilia, and one at Lido Majata, near the Scala, in 2025, according to Balarm. We have no reports of nests at Lido Rossello. If you see a turtle or its tracks, follow the advice in our guide to nature and turtles.
  • Dogs. There are no published rules, either for this beach or for the Scala: who to ask is explained in our guide to Scala dei Turchi with a dog.

When should you go?

The 2026 bathing season runs from 1 May to 31 October. The municipal shuttle started in July 2026; we don't know whether it will run again in later years. For the weather month by month and sunset times, see our guide on the best time to visit.

Who is Lido Rossello for?

Two things about Lido Rossello are verified: the tested water, and how close it is to the Scala, which you can also reach on foot along the road. The rest, meaning beach clubs, shade, parking and prices, we could not check: bring water and an umbrella and ask on site. For a view of the coast from above, the headland of Capo Rossello is just to the west; on the other side of the Scala lies Punta Grande.
